The TSP helps madrasah teachers develop their skills, attitudes and classroom practice, so they are better able to support their students’ learning. It recognises that effective teaching involves more than subject knowledge. It also depends on how teachers think about their role, how they relate to their students and how they manage the learning in their classrooms.
In 2020, the TSP was accredited by the Northern Council for Further Education (NCFE) in the UK. This gives madrasah teaching a nationally recognised professional standard and recognises the dedication of teachers who serve in madaris around the world.
To earn the qualification, teachers complete the TSP and five micro-teach sessions. In these sessions they put their learning into practice, deliver lessons and receive feedback, so the programme stays grounded in real classroom teaching.
Teachers who complete these requirements are awarded an NCFE Level 2 qualification. Teachers from Africa, North America and India have already graduated, with ceremonies held in 2020 and 2021 to mark their achievement.
The programme continues to grow. In the upcoming round of training, teachers from AFED, the Pakistan Federation and NASIMCO will complete the NCFE graduation programme, adding to a worldwide community of qualified madrasah teachers.
